4 Ways Yoga Makes You More Productive

You may hear a lot about why you should start yoga and all the amazing benefits it will bring you.

These will mostly be around increasing your flexibility and reducing stress. Now granted, those two might be the biggest benefits but there are more.

As a side benefit or extra benefit to the above, practising yoga regularly can also go a long way to increasing your productivity.

In fact, more and more businesses around the world are incorporating yoga into their day to day. If you're a company in south wales looking to test this out check out our corporate yoga page.

1. Relieves Stress

Life is stressful. There’s no getting around that fact. Work, bills, kids, whatever the cause may be yoga can help you deal with it.

When you're stressed out it's much harder to function let alone function at your best. Pretty much 0% productivity.

A weekly yoga practice can help you combat this. It will provide one hour a week where you can focus inward, forget about the outside world and focus on you.

In a 2018 study it was found yoga appears to be effective for stress amelioration and promotion of psychological health among workers experiencing stress.

A less stressed you is a more productive you.

2. Improves Focus & Concentration

This is kind of linked to the above. Whilst your stress, you can focus or concentrate properly.

Yoga’s meditation and breathing exercises help to silence the noise and clear the clutter, letting you be more mindful, alert and focused.

You'll get better and better at doing this in your yoga class. Eventually you will be able to transfer that mindfulness to everyday activities.

This means being able to deal with the day to day stresses of life in a much more productive and efficient way.

Another study from the University of Waterloo in 2018 found that practicing brief sessions of Hatha yoga and mindfulness meditation can significantly improve brain function and energy levels.

4. Promotes Healthier Choices

When you start yoga and begin to focus inwards more and more there is often a change in mindset. This change in mindset result in you making more and more healthier choices.

Big Mac? No thanks? Walk at lunchtime? Yea sure!

You'll begin to see these small changes occur more and more as yoga leads you gently to a more healthier lifestyle.

This promotes an increase in overall wellbeing and generally just feeling good. When you feel good, good thanks happen.

If you've got up at 9am on a saturday to attend a yoga class you'll likely feel more productive and happy for the rest of the weekend.

5. Reduces fatigue and increases energy

One of the most annoying things in life is getting a bad night’s sleep. It just doesn't start anyone’s day of in the right direction. No energy, no motivation and again 0% productivity.

Over recent years there has been more focus on sleep and ensuring you get a good one. From sleep tracking aps to specially designed mattresses people want more ZZZ's. In fact its reported that 37% of Brits don't get enough.

One of, if not the, biggest blockers to sleep is stress. You can't fall asleep or constantly waking up throughout the night.

Well as we saw above, yoga is a great stress buster. This in turn will mean you can fall asleep much quicker and get a better quality of sleep with consistent yoga practice.

There’s more to yoga than just being flexible.

As you can see there are a lot of additional benefits that regularly practising yoga can bring into your life.

You'll see a change in your mindset over time, the people you go to yoga with will help you on that journey and may even become your friends.

This general feeling of wellbeing will have a massive impact on every impact of your life. Not just feeling more productive, or less stressed, but your general outlook on life.
