We recently completed our beginners yoga survey which looked at the worries and fears of those just starting yoga.
If you are unsure what type of yoga class to go to, we've got you covered. Read our blog below. What Yoga Is Best For Me? Your Guide To Choosing.
From our survey we found the biggest worry, which you may be trying to overcome yourself was.
"worried I wouldn't be able to do it".
Now that’s completely understandable when you’re trying something new.
However, we also found that 40% of beginner yogis first class wasn’t as bad as they thought it would be. With a further 23% saying they were worried for nothing.
It's also worth noting that 50% of those surveyed said they felt completely comfortable after 1-2 lessons.
During the survey we also left an option section for comments from the beginners.
We asked, "What would you say to anyone thinking of starting yoga?"
Here are the answers...
35 Responses of simply “Just Do it / Just Try It / Go For It"
The overwhelming response was just to simply try it! 35 respondents simply just said “Go for it”
Keep in mind this advice is from those who have only just recently started themselves.
But we also had some more in-depth answers.
"Try it and see for yourself as preconceptions are not always correct! You can go at your own level, stop when you need to and most importantly feel like you have accomplished something by trying something new."
Just do it! You notice improvements every week, it’s great to help switch off from everything else - all of us have our off days in class, even the best ones look silly in certain poses, everyone is there to improve their well-being and to have fun, not to judge.
"Give it a go! I’m the worst flexible person but I just try and get into the stretch, sometimes have to readjust and try again. That’s OK."
"Don't hesitate, there's no competition in Yoga just a lovely feeling of well being and contentment after each class."
"Try it and I can guarantee you will enjoy it and go back for more."
"Try. It will change your life"
"Try it! If you’re looking for a calming relaxing exercise that makes you feel good about your whole self. I would encourage it. It helps if you do other exercises such as running or cardio exercise or classes as it helps to stretch out parts of the body. You do not have to be flexible."
"It is enjoyable and not easy or boring as some think it is. I love mediation as it helps you blank out the stresses and worries you may have in the day. "
"It’s great for your well-being and everyone is concentrating on their own thing and not looking at anyone else so don’t panic!
It's addictive and truly works the whole body. A misconception by many people. "
"Give it a go as it helps not only strengthen the body, it helps de-stress the mind with breathing and meditation. Helps you unwind and forget your worries for a while. Calming effect. "
Do it! It’s amazing, not just physically but mentally. I have muscles and definition in my arms and legs that I’ve never had before. I love the classes and wouldn’t be without them!
Just go for it there will always be someone better than you, but they've been doing it a lot longer than you. It’s a great way to meet people and don't take it too seriously you can have a giggle as well.
Just try it- Sophie is very calming and knowledgeable and put me at ease straight away. The studio is serene and clean - a great experience overall!
A massive thank you again for everyone who took the time to take part in our survey!
So, what have you got to lose? Just give it a go!
